SoundClips & Handsets – Stranraer Harbourmaster’s Building

The Harbourmaster’s Building in Stranraer holds fond memories for locals, boasting a rich and varied maritime history. It was not only the former Harbourmaster’s office but also a social hub for locals and even a place for farmers to weigh grain or metal scraps. Now it’s a heritage site aiming to share some of those stories with visitors.

These stories are brought to life through a collection of oral histories presented on a bespoke audio point. Dumfries and Galloway Council requested Stuco Design to supply the unit. Our heavy duty headsets and SoundClips were utilised for the unit with longevity in mind, also offering more accessibility with the addition of a hearing loop option. Katrina Gregory of Stuco Design goes on to elaborate;

“We created an audio table with bespoke laminated graphics for people to sit down and enjoy listening to the stories. The tracks begin to play upon picking up of the headset and can be skipped by using the button, which was important for the client to update content (in future).”

“We found Blackbox-av to be very helpful with advice on the use and set up of their products from the other end of the phone. The end product looks professional and works well for our requirements.”

Built into a simple but effective free standing unit, this is a great example of our heavy duty handsets and SoundClip integrated cleanly within an existing heritage space.
