SoundClip-2, Headphones & MIAS – Fulham Palace

{

“The audio hardware and headphones that we purchased from Blackbox-av are being used to play poetry created by poet Adisa the Verbaliser, created in collaboration with community groups as part of the new Bishops of London, Colonialism and Transatlantic Slavery: Resistance Exhibition.”

– Emily Toettcher, Museum Consultant

Fulham Palace has undergone quite the transformation since 2006, with three major restoration projects helping to preserve the house, its garden and courtyard. With it, Fulham Palace Trust aims to create one of the UK’s most inclusive and inspiring historic houses and gardens, teaching over 6,000 years of English history.

Recently, Fulham Palace has opened an exhibit called ‘The Bishops of London, Colonialism and Transatlantic Slavery: Resistance‘. The Bishop of London, who lived at Fulham Palace, was one of the Church of England’s most senior figures, having jurisdiction over British colonies around the world. This was during a time when the Church was deeply implicated in Britain’s colonial expansion and the transatlantic slave trade.

Museum Consultant Emily Toettcher goes on to explain more about the exhibition and how our hardware was used;

“The audio hardware and headphones that we purchased from Blackbox-av are being used to play poetry created by poet Adisa the Verbaliser, created in collaboration with community groups as part of the new Bishops of London, Colonialism and Transatlantic Slavery: Resistance Exhibition. The SoundClip devices and headphones are in a gallery, each featuring a piece of poetry about a form of resistance; hair, dance (and martial arts), song and obeah.”

MIAS Speaker at Fulham Palace

“The message in a speaker is used in a large historic interior, featuring images of resistance figures. A poem about each resistance figure is played through the speaker, which is triggered when people walk in.”

The integration of our off-the-shelf audio devices within the exhibition helps add a layer of interpretation that allows visitors to really engage with the subject matter. Coupled with captivating content curated by the client team, and the easy plug and play nature of the Message in a Speaker and SoundClip, the installation is simple but the affect on the visitor experience is long reaching.
