Solar Audio Post – Trans Pennine Trail
“The funding for these came from a legacy fund from a family whose parents used the Trail regularly and wanted to support accessibility improvements along their favourite section of the Trail. They include voice overs from Brian Blessed OBE – certainly not the booming voice you expect along one of the most tranquil sections of the Trail but they’ve been really well received by everyone. And the voice recordings aren’t too long so they’re great for keeping the minds of children focussed to listen before they run along to find the next one.”
– Mandy Loach, Lead Officer of Trans Pennine Trial
Spanning a whopping 370 miles of explorable track, the Trans Pennine Trial is one of the UK’s premier locations for walks, cycling and horse riding, with the longest route being a 215 mile coast-to-coast journey from Southport to Hornsea. It’s designed to be highly accessible with level routes and an almost complete lack of traffic whilst offering the option to travel in sections with breaks along the way.
Installed within the Longdendale section of the trail you’ll find three Solar Audio Posts from Blackbox-av. Charged completely by sunlight, engraved with a design made by Trans Pennine Trail national office and constructed from a tanalised red wood timber, they’re built to provide access for up to 6 audio files in almost any environment. Making them the ideal way to deliver outdoor audio interpretation.
The funding for these Solar Audio Posts came from the legacy fund of a family whose parents loved the Trail. They wanted to support accessibility improvements along their favourite section. Each of the three Solar Audio Posts installed along the Trans Pennine Trail covers themes of history, water and the environment with short audio files narrated by none other than Brian Blessed OBE himself. His booming voice is certainly an unconventional pick for a relaxing walk, but his distinct charisma has been welcomed by visitors of all ages.
