Solar Audio Post – Princess Diana Memorial Playground

The Princess Diana Memorial Playground was opened on June 30th 2000 in memory of Princess Diana who was famous for her love of children. Aimed at kids 12 and below, this impressive playground is themed on the stories of Peter Pan, with a huge pirate ship centrepiece that children can climb surrounded by a sandy beach. There’s also a teepee area, swings, climbing frame, a sensory trail and play tunnel; as well as various toys and sculptures hidden throughout, encouraging children to roam and explore. It’s also now home to 5 PIR activated Solar Audio Posts thanks to a recommendation from ‘Timberplay’ (a company we often work with who specialise in outdoor play areas).

5 PIR Solar Audio Posts

Design of the playground focused on creating a place where able and less able-bodied children could play together, with an emphasis on adventure and exploration. The Solar Audio Posts fit in well with this goal, installed along a small path the posts are activated via PIR, which means children (and their parents!) need only walk past to activate the sounds stored within.

Combined the Solar Audio Posts create a fun little audio zone, giving kids a real sense of adventure as they uncover the sounds from one post to the next. Audio on the Solar Posts is currently ‘Beach’ themed, such as the sound of the sea, buoys, Pirates, seagulls etc. although there are aims to alter the audio from time to time through the use of the Universal Programmer.

The Audio Posts are a really great addition to this beautifully designed and maintained playground, creating a wonderful zone for children to explore that truly fulfills the playgrounds mission statement through the use of PIR activated sounds.
