Solar Audio Post – Dyffryn Llynfi Porthcawl Railway
By 1831 it was carrying passengers and by 1861 horsepower had been replaced by steam power. Porthcawl became a popular destination for day trippers and the line remained busy until its closure in 1960 as a direct result of the ‘Beeching Report’.
Now a well trodden heritage walk the old DLPR route offers an intriguing look into Wales’ industrial past with some wonderful scenery and wildlife to enjoy along the way. Beginning in Maesteg the route takes visitors through Parc Tondu then Parc Slip Nature Park, to the Cefn Junction Signal Box and then finally Bedford Park.
Solar Audio Posts
3 Solar Audio Posts were used along the trail, at the Cefn Junction Box and the Parc Slip Nature Trail. Each plays an audio message in Welsh on one button and English on another. The audio posts also display signage underneath the laser etched button plate with a QR code that links to a video hosted on youtube, giving further details about that particular area of the trail.
Thanks to our specially designed solar electronics the posts can play their messages on even overcast days without needing to draw upon their battery reserves (which are constantly being recharged), the posts also have the ability to provide message play counts, so Bridgend Council can see exactly how many times each post has been activated.
Constructed from oak they blend nicely with their surroundings and add a great element to this popular trail.
