Solar Audio Bench – Aberavon Seafront

The Aberavon seafront has seen a lot of changes recently thanks to a major modernisation programme by Visit Wales. New play facilities, signage and a refreshment kiosk are joined by the refurbished sunken gardens, boasting a brand new beach shelter designed to reflect its seaside location.

Improvements can be seen all along the promenade making the Aberavon seafront an ideal destination for a relaxing summers day, with plenty of facilities catering to both the young and… not quite so young.

We were contacted by Gemma Hargest a Heritage Officer for Neath Port Talbot Council to enquire about the possibility of including a talking bench within the new Sunken Gardens Beach Shelter.

Utilising the same solar electronics, we built a bespoke audio station that could be installed directly within the existing bench, ensuring that it blends effortlessly with the shelters aesthetic.

Operated by two buttons, the audio point plays a single message in both Welsh and English. We were commissioned to record and edit the audio (which tells exciting tales about pirates on the Aberavon coast!) as well as design and install the audio station.
