Oversized U-Turn Round – Petjades del Vi

Petjades del Vi (Footprints of Wine) is an urban trail that introduces visitors to the history of wine in Vilafranca del Penedès, Spain. Along the kilometer-long route through and around the city visitors come across seven stations that highlight locations and histories that have played a prominent role in the economic and social development of the city, all of them linked to the world of wine.

Geosilva Projectes designed and carried out this project which celebrates the area as one of the main wine regions of Catalonia and highlights the city of Vilafranca as the Wine Capital of Penedès.

Each station utilises various forms of interpretation, such as a weathering steel totem or large-format panels with photographs and info-graphics.

One such panel contains Blackbox-av’s wind-up powered Oversized U-Turn Round built into the unit via a unique weathering steel case, matching the interpretive aesthetic of the trail perfectly. Visitors need only select a number on the dial and turn the handle to power the device.

GeoSilva Projectes have utilised the U-Turn to provide multi-lingual audio, telling the story of the Petjades del Vi route in Catalan, Spanish, French and English, as well as a fragment of an interview with a local cooper. You can listen to a few samples here.
