Heavy Duty Handsets Retrofit – London Canal Museum
“The recent upgrade has seen the original cast metal handsets replaced with the most recent design from BBAV. The handsets need to be very robust because as in any museum that welcomes children, they get significant rough treatment. A number of units were failing and with help from a BBAV on-site technician we have upgraded the handsets and given the units a new lease of life.”
– Martin Sach, Chairman at the Canal Museum Trust
Housed in an 1860’s warehouse the London Canal Museum has the unique job of presenting two histories under one roof. One is London’s canal heritage while the other and less obvious theme is that of Carlo Gatti’s ice trade and ice cream.
The museum has a wide selection of button activated audio points accessible throughout the visitor journey. Many of which we supplied over a decade ago with the addition of rather unique braille surrounds.
The audio points themselves are still functioning perfectly, however time has taken its toll on the original cast metal handsets, prompting Martin Sach, Chairman for the Canal Museum Trust to reach out to us again and request upgrades to the installations. Not available over a decade ago, our newest and most robust handset the HDH (Heavy Duty Handsets) are now retrofit to the existing audio points.
