Button Activated Weatherproof Screen – Caerphilly Castle
This has included (amongst other things) the addition of touch screen interactives, improved signage, digital fireplaces and a soundscape experience along one of the impressive battlements. We were commissioned to create said soundscape earlier in the year, and were commissioned once again to install a large 42″ weatherproof screen in one of the towers.
Weatherproof Screen
The client team at Caerphilly Castle had a video they wanted to present to visitors in both Welsh and English. This video, titled ‘The Story of Wales, Normans and Castles’ was to be played in one of the castle towers which although inside, was still somewhat susceptible to the elements. For this reason the screen needed to be very resilient and capable of dealing with temperature at both ends of the spectrum.
We supplied and installed a large 42″ screen built within a weatherproof frame, this was installed via a bespoke bracket system in the top corner of the tower. Connected to the screen is a solid state video player and speakers which are activated via button press, playing two videos one in Welsh and one in English.
The buttons needed to be at waist height below the screen, to avoid unsightly wires this meant the use of a wireless system, built into an oak box with an engraved front plate the button box was constructed specifically for this project and installed near the entrance of the tower within easy access of visitors.
