AudioSign Touch Electronics – St Davids Bishop’s Palace
Suffering from disrepair and eventual abandonment in the 17th century, the palace is now a Grade 1 listed site under the management of CADW, who through extensive conservation work between 2003 – 2009 have turned the Palace into an awe inspiring visitor attraction.
AudioSign Touch
With the aim of improving interpretation on site (along with the visitor experience and with it visitor numbers) design consultants Hotrod Creations were appointed to shape an interpretation plan. The Grade 1 listed status and open-air aspect of the site created a number of hurdles to overcome, not least combating the classic Welsh weather! With a brief of improving visitor interaction through the use of multi-media displays and not simply relying on traditional one-dimensional signage, Hotrod Creations devised a plan to incorporate audio within custom signage panels.
Hotrod Creations commissioned creative sign designers Fitzpatrick Woolmer to manufacture a series of highly bespoke lectern signs that were able to play audio, Fitzpatrick Woolmer utilised our AudioSign Touch Electronics in order to do this. Offering up to 6 messages played incrementally by pushing 2 buttons our electronics have a low profile which allows them to be seamlessly integrated within signage panels. To fall within their design concept Fitzpatrick Woolmer opted for battery powered electronics rather than our standard solar powered, which left more space on each panel for signage.
Designed by Hotrod Creations, manufactured by Fitzpatrick Woolmer and utilising Blackbox-av’s AudioSign Touch electronics, the resulting interpretation panels fit beautifully with the Bishops Palace aesthetic. Providing information about this historic site throughout the centuries in a creative and engaging manner.
