Audio Post – Beckford’s Tower and Museum

{
We were commissioned to develop a simple freestanding audio post which wouldn’t look out of place at the Tower with 4 messages on each and the ability to allow users to adjust the volume.
Beckford’s tower is an architectural folly built in 1827 for Bath resident William Beckford who (for a time) was said to be the wealthiest commoner in Britain thanks to an inherited fortune from his father. Beckford is most famous for his huge art collection, writing the novel Vathek and his love of extravagant architecture, including ‘Beckford’s Tower’.

These days the tower is a Grade I listed building and operates as a museum, allowing visitors an insight into the man himself as well as access to the top of the tower for impressive panoramic views.

Beckfords Tower Audio Posts

After talking to members of the Bath Preservation Trust at the South Western Federation of Museums and Art Galleries (SWFed) conference, we were commissioned to develop a simple freestanding audio post which wouldn’t look out of place at the Tower with 4 messages on each and the ability to allow users to adjust the volume.

The Audio Post was developed utilising the SoundClip-8 button audio player with a bespoke housing topped with an engraved button plate – it was such a success that it’s now a standard product on our online store.
