Audio Frame – Maidstone Zoo Exhibition

Cobtree Manor Park offers a calming day out for all, with a play area for young kids and multiple walking paths across its 50 acres of land featuring a diverse and maturing collection of trees and shrubs. Cobtree Manor Park was also where the former Maidstone Zoo was open between 1934 – 1959.
The Maidstone Zoo Exhibition aims to retell this history for those visiting Cobtree Manor Park. Ann-Marie Langley, Arts, Culture & Events Officer at Maidstone Borough Council goes on to explain what it’s about and how one of Blackbox-av’s Audio Frames were utilised.
“The audio files were recorded at an oral history event in Cobtree Park and included interviews/memories from people who worked at the zoo as well as those who visited. Visitors to the exhibition who listened to the audio recordings were inspired to share their own stories and memories of the zoo so we will be holding another oral history day soon to capture more of these! We estimate that between 1,500 – 2,000 people visited the exhibition over the course of the two weeks it was open”
