Audio Frame – Abergavenny Museum
“Blackbox-av have been extremely patient with our service whilst we sourced funding for a replacement audio unit. The customer service and communication we’ve received has been paramount. The quality of materials used and the audio on the replacement Audio Frame are excellent and are being much enjoyed by our many visitors.”
– Visitor Assistant, Abergavenny Museum
Abergavenny Museum details the history of the town and the surrounding area using a wide range of artefacts seen in both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The Welsh kitchen was one of the museum’s first displays and still one of the most popular, having been updated in 2012/13 in partnership with Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni – a local school. As a result of Welsh Government funding the museum team more recently introduced interventions which contribute to the anti racist Wales action plan by opening conversations, give more context and depth to our existing exhibitions, by revealing things that have been historically left out of the stories we tell in our galleries. The intervention in the Welsh kitchen focuses on items which are linked to Slave Trade, Colonialism and Empire such items include sugar tongs, coffee grinder, cotton and crockery.
Easily installed on the existing signage unit and branded to blend in via the full colour front graphic, visitors need only raise a Heavy Duty Handset to their ear and press a button to start listening to stories as told by those who would have lived and worked here. The Audio Frame shares 6 tracks in both Welsh and English (making 12 in total) and also allows users to adjust the volume if required.
