55″ Mediascreens – Oxford University Museum of Natural History
“The use of screens and digital media in permanent displays is a first for Oxford University Museum of Natural History, but the hardware provided by Blackbox AV has helped to bring real dynamism to our centre court exhibits.”
– Scott Billings, Redisplay Project Manager
Established in 1860 as the centre of scientific study for the University of Oxford, something that had previously been overlooked in favour of subjects such as history, the classics, theology and philosophy, the award-winning Oxford University Museum of Natural History has been declared the second most-visited university museum in the UK, holding a colossal collection of 7 million objects from across the globe.
The Museum is always shifting and adapting to remain relevant, with the most recent Life, As We Know It project, an ambitious programme to reimagine many of the permanent displays. From biodiversity to evolution – ecosystems to the history of the planet, the new exhibits highlight our deeply interconnected natural world through beautiful presentations of key scientific ideas.
Two 55″ Screens form a closely stitched video wall, framed to make one giant circular presentation about the world’s natural networks. While a single 55″ Mediascreen is installed behind a panel that breaks it into seven individual displays with a focus on animal diversity.
The clever installation of video screens in this project makes for a more impactful and eye catching-display, drawing the attention of visitors.
