Heavy Duty Handsets – Meie Tartu Exhibition
Integral to this exciting exhibition is the ability to share stories from residents relating to the various neighbourhoods and city life. Dotted throughout the museum you’ll find a number of video units coupled with our Heavy Duty Handsets that present these insights to visitors.
Meie Tartu/Our Tartu is an exhibition located in Estonia’s second largest city Tartu. It’s about the people who live here and its uniquely numerous neighbourhoods. Introducing visitors to the kaleidoscopic nature of this beloved city through 17 distinctly themed spaces – each conveying something that makes each neighbourhood and Tartu as a whole, so special.
Each of Tartu’s neighbourhoods is unique – It’s unusual for such a small city to have so many clearly distinct neighbourhoods especially when you consider they are not officially defined – instead evolving naturally over time, growing into the various communities you see today.
One impressive aspect of the exhibition is that every visitor can contribute: gifting items with interesting backgrounds or sharing their tales in the “Book of Stories.” They can trade flower seeds in Jaamamõisa or preserves in Supilinn, and leave messages on the notice board in Karlova.

The addition of our Heavy Duty Handsets is ideal for an environment such as this – with multiple video screens available in each location the noise pollution of each playing at once would be overwhelming for visitors. Instead the use of handsets creates a much more inviting experience which thanks to their unique magnetic hangers are easily stored away when not in use.
