With more than 200,000 visitors per year and a collection spanning over 100 species, the award-winning Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm offers memorable family days out with truly amazing animals – from the smallest sun beetles to the tallest giraffes! Here’s Toni Bush, Freelance Consultant at Halo Projects and Project Manager for the ‘Bear’s Den’, talking about a new interpretation project at the Zoo and our involvement;
“In April 2023, Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in North Somerset became a registered conservation charity. To mark this significant transition from a family-owned business, Noah’s Ark commissioned a new exhibition in 2022 to share with visitors the vision, ethos and day-to-day work of the zoo.”
“As well as easy-to-read interpretation, fantastic graphics and interactives for all ages, the exhibition needed bringing to life with robust AV elements that could cope with over 200,000 annual visitors to the zoo. The AV components would also be an important part of the exhibition’s accessibility – a top priority for the zoo which is leading the way among visitor attractions in this respect.”
“Blackbox-av was recommended as a trusted and competitive regional supplier to Noah’s Ark by the Bristol-based exhibition designer working on the project – two of the AV elements installed by the company are particularly enjoyed by visitors.”
“A 14ft scale model of Noah’s Ark is part of the exhibition as a symbol of the conservation work at the zoo. Visitors can guess the answers to curious questions about different animals and press a button to find out the answer. When they do, the appropriate model animals on the ark are illuminated with sound effects.”
“Children can also crawl into a bear’s den and press buttons to listen to the sounds of spectacled bears in the wild, at the zoo and from their natural habitat in the cloud forests of South America. This feature delighted representatives of Spectacled Bear Conservation, a charity working in Peru, who visited the zoo recently as partners with Noah’s Ark in vital conservation work.”
The colorful interpretation with smartly implemented AV results in a fun and informative space, perfect for the target audience.
