55″ Touchscreen with Hotspot Software – Llyn Llech Owain

Managed by Carmarthenshire County Council, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park is 180 acres of beautiful Welsh heartland. The Park is home to a range of activities, visitors come here to explore various nature trails and enjoy the lake, children can embark on a quest through the wooden adventure playground and cyclists are free to roam the rough mountain terrain.

The lake within Llyn Llech Owain and its surrounding peat bog is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), attracting many visitors to its rare habitat. Located by the lake is a unique round structure which houses the recently refurbished Visitor Centre. As part of this project we were commissioned by Smith & Jones Design Consultants to supply a 55″ touchscreen powered by our speedy Mini Desktop PC (BBPC-i7) and operating our flagship museum software, Lightbox 3.

Lightbox 3 is our unique software package that includes a wide range of extremely flexible applications developed primarily with museum and heritage use in mind. This includes the ‘Hotspot’ App which was used here, you can view the finished software in action above.

Working closely with Smith and Jones Design Consultants who provided the graphical elements, we used Lightbox to create a unique Hotspot interactive which helps to demonstrate the significance of the site. This setup allows visitors to explore various points of interest overlaid on a map of the country park as well as view a demonstration of the bog in action. Visitors are then able to learn more about the surrounding habitat in a fun and interactive manner.

The touchscreen interactive fits wonderfully in with the new vibrant, engaging and enjoyable Visitor Centre.
