Luton Journeys – Solar Electronics

I could include the actual voices and recordings of the people we workshopped with, sharing stories of real people in their own words. It makes such a difference when trying to make a connection with passers by. It’s like having the person right there in the street chatting to you!

Sophie Gresswell was the driving force behind a unique project in Luton that encouraged locals to share a collection of their personal stories. Three Luton based artists including Gresswell, Aimi Rix and Mary Hearne came together to collect these stories and subsequently bring them to life within an art piece.

With support from London Luton Airport Limited, Luton Council, and Arts Council England, the final artwork was produced and then installed streetside. The piece showcases the collected stories using portraits, handwritten letters as well as audio – all designed to illustrate Luton’s diverse identity.

In order to share recorded stories with viewers an outdoor audio solution was required. For this we supplied our Solar Electronics, the button panel was installed through the signage with the solar panels placed behind.

The result is a truly unique art piece that celebrates the people of Luton in a special way.
