Heavy Duty Handsets – Nieuwpoort Flood Barrier
Visitors are able to choose which report to hear in 4 different languages, the audio of which is played via the heavy duty handsets.
In 1953 the town of Ostend in Belgium was hit by a major flood which also affected parts of the Netherlands, England and Scotland. Thanks to climate change flooding is becoming an increasing issue for coastal towns such as Niewpoort (located just 30 minutes from Ostend) which has resulted in the need of a new flood barrier.
Located nearby is an exhibition designed by Belgian company Madoc which explains why the flood barrier is required, how it works as well as providing some insight to the 1953 flood. AV plays a large part in the exhibition, for which we supplied a number of our Heavy Duty Handsets.
Located in the exhibition is a bay of touch screen terminals each providing visitors with four different reports – from a weatherman, project engineer, the director of coastal infrastructure and a witness who experienced the flood at 1953. Visitors are able to choose which report to hear in 4 different languages, the audio of which is played via the heavy duty handsets.
Stored securely when not in use via their unique magnetic hanger, the heavy duty handsets are designed for commercial use with armoured cables, reinforced connection points and built entirely from impact resistant plastic with no perishable parts such as gauze or cushions. The resulting interactive information points are very effective.
