Outdoor Touchscreen & App – Experience Porthcawl

Experience Porthcawl is an initiative to improve the experience of tourists at this lovely Welsh seaside town. Situated just 25 miles from Cardiff, Porthcawl is a popular visitor destination especially during the summer months, boasting a great beach, seafront funfair and impressive Watersports Centre.

It was felt that many visitors to Porthcawl found it difficult to orient themselves as well as find information on exactly what was available to them, including places to eat, stay and things to do. With this in mind a new website was launched with easy access to such information, however it was also hoped this could be accessed offline while in Porthcawl.

This is when we were brought on board, to devise a way to share this information at various locations around Porthcawl. With the information already held online but no easy way to get an internet connection to these outdoor locations it wasn’t simply a case of allowing access to the website via an outdoor screen. Instead we needed to develop a bespoke Android App that could take this information and present it offline whilst also in a more touchscreen friendly way.

Using our large 55″ outdoor touchscreens running this bespoke app we installed the first outside the Experience Porthcawl visitor hub, with plans to install more at sites around Porthcawl. The touchscreens present visitors with information on where exactly they are situated, what is available around them as well as advertising opportunities for local businesses.
