April Newsletter 2017 – What We’ve Been Up To
Welcome to our April newsletter! We’ve had a busy month, chock-a-block with new products and projects. Let’s get stuck in!
Installation
Land of the Lions – London Zoo
You can now be transported to the Sasan Gir, India thanks to a brand new enclosure at London Zoo, ‘Land of the Lions’. The enclosure has become the new home for a group of Asiatic Lions and allows visitors to see the lions in a replica of their native habitat.
We were brought on board to provide audio visual interpretation, with many of the items of bespoke build. The interpretation has allowed the new enclosure to be a huge success with visitors and gives a insight into the dangers that Asiatic Lions currently face.
Smaller Projects
Armour Cable Headphones – Science Museum, London
Four of our Armour Cable headphones & hangers can be found in two new exhibits at the Science Museum in London; Wounded: Conflict, Casualties and Care & Our Lives in Data. Wounded exhibition commemorates the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, and how the wounds sustained by soldiers there impacted the medical industry, while Our Lives in Data displays the numerous ways data is collected in the modern world.
Our headphones were installed alongside screens that would displays videos in their respective exhibitions and are surviving well through heavy use thanks to their robust design. The Wounded exhibit is running until January 2018, while Our Lives in Data will run until September of this year.
SoundClip-8, 6 Buttons & Speaker – Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Zoo recently launched a brand new enclosure, Tiger Tracks, giving two Sumatran Tigers a new home. The enclosure allows visitors to come face to face with the tigers while learning about how the zoo helps to protect these majestic big cats.
Our SoundClip-8, along with 6 of our standard push buttons & waterproof speaker were incorporated into a panel that resides within the Tiger Outlook Hut, where visitors can view the tigers and find out more information about their native home in Sumatra. The new enclosure is incredibly unique and allows the tigers to be viewed in a magnificent and immersive space like never before.
UTR Oversized Panel – Alfred Russel Wallace Trail
Our UTR has made its way onto the Alfred Russel Wallace Trail, thanks to Neath Port Talbot Council. The trail focuses on the life and work of the famous naturalist & biologist, who spent five years furthering his scientific pursuits in Neath.
We designed and supplied a special UTR panel to reside outside the Mechanic’s Institute in Neath, where visitors can choose from up to 8 messages to hear stories about how the Institute was established. The UTR panel provides a more engaging and exciting experience for visitors as opposed to simple traditional signage.
Bespoke Projects
Bespoke Interactives – Cornwall Energy Recovery Visitors Centre
Cornwall Council has built a brand new Energy Recovery Centre which is aiming to provide a more cost-effective and greener alternative to managing waste. In collaboration with the Freelance Design Partnership we helped fit-out the accompanying Visitor Centre with various unique installations.
Our contributions to the visitor centre include a barcode scanner unit, an interactive quiz using our Video Clip HD8 players, a bespoke grabber & a computer interface system. As a result, the centre creates an engaging interactive experience for visitors, informing them about modern waste management.
