Creating Effective Visitor Experiences at the National Trust

Nov 5, 2012 | News

At blackbox-av we endeavour to help National Trust properties throughout the UK influence the feelings of their visitors. We want to help create a memorable visitor experience which adds value to the membership fee or entry price and encourages the visitor to return, or engage further with National Trust at other properties.

This post was originally sent to members of the National Trust as one of our occasional communiques which outline how we’ve assisted NT properties achieve their visitor experience.

Our National Trust Installments so far
Dunster Castle
We recently installed various audio visual products for the new Crypt exhibit at Dunster Castle. Amongst other things an exciting environment was created using some scary sound effects and bespoke lighting.
Speke Hall / 20 Forthlin Road
We supplied a digital audio device with pause/play functionality for use by tour guides in the childhood home of iconic Beatles member, Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney himself provided the narration.
Little Moreton Hall & Tyntesfield
Using Speakers from our MIAS (Message in a Speaker) range, both of these National Trust properties have created motion activated audio aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.
Hardwick Hall
In order to add atmospheric sounds to the Stables and Smithy Hardwick Hall used our Solar Electronics and a bespoke mains powered Audio Post. Making these two areas of this historic site really come alive.
Erddig & Sizergh
Both of these National Trust properties utilised our AudioFrame 15 listening points to provide visitors with various audio clips regarding the history of each site, that can be selected and listened to at the push of a button.
Castle Coole
The VideoFrame 12 was used in Castle Coole to provide visitors with an information point in which they could choose from a selection of informative videos to view regarding this impressive mansion.
Gibside
We adapted a VideoFrame 12 to provide both recorded and live video feeds of animals in their habitats. Recorded videos were a necessity because sometimes animals just don’t want to follow the script!
Wakehurst Place
(An RBG Kew project but Wakehurst is a joint NT/RBG property) Wakehurst used Solar Electronics and a bespoke U-Turn with an oversized front plate installed in a custom housing for their new ‘Seed Hub’ project. The devices were chosen mainly for their ‘green’ credentials.
